this fourth of july think of the indigenous people of america who had their country and land stolen from them with little to no reparations or apologies. land is still being taken. sacred grounds are still being ripped away. there is no “independence” for the people who were here first.

posts about BLM no longer being on peoples dashes is so frustrating cause I feel like if you’re following the right people, especially black artists, creatives, activists, etc. then you wouldn’t be having that issue, I’m certainly not. There’s still so much left to be done and the fight is no where near over. So please consider following more black content creators and activists cause trust me when I say, your dash and your world view will be much better for it.

@puciboi and the other folks asking for some recommendations! Here’s a list of just a few of the wonderful content creators I follow here on tumblr! And as always I can’t reccomend the drawingwhileblack tag on twitter enough, it’s a great resource full of amazing artists in the entertainment/game/publishing/illustration/etc. industry!

One thing I’ve learned about writing is ”give everything a face”. It’s no good to write passively that the nobility fled the city or that the toxic marshes were poisoning the animals beyond any ability to function. Make a protagonist see how a desperate woman in torn silks climbs onto a carriage and speeds off, or a two-headed deer wanders right into the camp and into the fire. Don’t just have an ambiguous flock of all-controlling oligarchy, name one or two representatives of it, and illustrate just how vile and greedy they are as people.

it’s bad to have characters who serve no purpose in the story, but giving something a face is a perfectly valid purpose.

Watching my neighbors across the street having a block party during a literal time of pandemic makes me wonder if several hundred years ago there was another person looking out their window watching their neighbors congregate during the black death like verily forsooth, thou art truly ass-headed knaves.

There were indeed. There’s a series of diary entries from S Pepsys during July of 1665 documenting the same behaviors.

i don’t know how to say it but please keep an eye on Hong Kong. it is now illegal for people in hk to speak out or ask for international support/foreign aid under the crime of collusion with foreign forces. a new national security agency is coming to hk to enforce this and they are authorized to surveillance those they suspect. The population of 7.5 million people are all expected to comply esp since they are installing officers to prevent protests in the wake of the bill

people are already getting arrested for having leaflets on them the day the law was published. the new law potentially crimininalizes all protests. “inciting hatred” towards prc/hk government is punishable up to life imprisonment if there is “potential of serious consequences” which could mean anything especially if protests are involved.

how insidious to make young girls buy hundreds of dollars worth of makeup, to force them to read up on its theory, to make them practice it for hours in order to escape mockery, to make them feel safe only when performing this hyper femininity, and then to even have the audacity to package it in feminist language so that they firmly believe it sets them free.

who called you out on your sloppy wings

I know you probably think you’re really witty, but I just want you to know that you, and all the other people who made that joke, prove my point exactly.
